EDUCATION.

Hokitika, May 13

The annual report of the Westland Education Board was circulated yesterday, furnishing the following information : —At the end of the year 1880 there were 34 schools, employing 86 teachers. Out of 34 schools in the district, 18 were under the 88th clause. The salaries paid to teachers average £B7 per annum, or about 32s per week; the highest is £165, ihe lowest £36 10s per annum. The receipts of the Board during the past year are shown to have been £17.216, and the expenditure £18,329. The assets are shown at £1590.
