A NEW INVENTION.
SECOND EDITION
The following from the '‘Taranaki Herald” will be interesting to dairy farmers : —“ Mr E. Smith has manufactured a new butter packer, which promises to be a very useful invention. It is made of Taranaki cement, being in the shape of a small tobacco box, the inside ot which will be painted with a solution of silica. It is capable of holding 281bs of butter, which will be hermetically sealed, and it is intended that four of these packers will bo placed inside a wooden box. It is considered that the butter will thus be protected from the heat while crossing the line, the cement walls of the packer being to a certain extent heat-proof. Messrs Humphries and Son, merchants have determined to give this invention a fair trial, and have ordered a number of these packers with the object of exporting a quantity of butter to London. Should this local industry prove suitable, it will be of great advantage to the districtly generally.
