THE WHITELAW PROSECUTION.
[By Telegraph.] Wellington, May 6. The civil action brought by the Government, relative to Mrs Kettle’s (his mother) salary, as matron, which, it was alleged, had been received by Whitelaw, and not accounted for, has been dropped, Mrs Kettle having signed a document giving a full discharge for the same. Whitelaw stands committed for trial for ill-treatment, but to-day he obtained the necessary bail and was liberated.
