Captain Garrard of the Tararua is stated to have arrived in the colony a few years ago in charge of one of Union S.S. Company’s vessels. He was but 29 years of age, and the youngest captain in the intercolonial service. It is stated that he was making his last trip before being married to a lady in Melbourne. Mr J. 0. Eva was B relative of the Hon Mr Oliver, Minister for Public Works, and manager for the New Zealand Hardware Company. The Revs Waterhouse, Richardson, and Armitage are all prominent Wesleyans. An inebriate was discharged with a caution at the B.M. Court this morning. The following is a list of patients in the Timaru hospital for the month of April Admitted*: 19 males, 7 females ; Discharged—cured, 18 males, 3 females ; relieved, 2 males; incurable, 1 male ; dead, 2 males. Remaining under treatment, 22 males? 9 females. Out door patients—relieved 24.
