MELBOURNE MARKETS.

M'Grcgor, Gordon and Co report for the weekending April 6,1881 :

Breadstuffs. —Wheat is at 4s 4£d, for prime shipping parcels, ex store. The aspect of our market is firm, and our advices from London being assuring, together with freights to London being easier, have caused a briskness to rule here with an advancing tone. We have sold good milling ex station at 4s 3d, medium at 4s IJd. Flour has advanced to £9 2s 6d, and is firm.

Feed Grain —Oats continue to advance. We have sold Victorian milling at 2s 104 d; good feed, 2.s 7dand 2s 8d ; inferior at 2s 3d. The demand for Tartarian Seed is easier, We have sold at 2s lid, the sample being medium. New Zealand milling continue in good demand at 2s sd, ex steamer in bond. Victorian milling being scarce, the demand for New Zealand parcels is daily increasing. Feed Barley—We have sold at 2s 5d to 2s 6d ; first-class Oregon, 2s 6§d to 2s7d. Maize remains at 4 4Jd and 4s Pd Bran—We have sold 23,000 bushels at 10£ ex station. Hops are firmer in price, we have sold a few lines at Is 7d. Grass Seeds—The late rains have caused great activity for seed ; rye grass we have sold at 4s , cocksfoot, we have no transactions to report in the absence of arrivals •from New Zealand.

Dairy Produce —Cheese —Since last report we have sold 85001bs good at 4|d to 4sd ; the demand is improving daily. Butter Potted—We sold this d«y new potted at 8d to B£d no inferior to hand. A great re-action has taken place in the old potted, we have sold 120 casks at 6d, prime 7|d, and at these prices the demand is unlimited. Melbourne stocks of prime are light. Fresh Butter—The best dairies we sold at lid to Is 2d ; medium, at 9d ; inferior, 4£to sd. The supply to hand is quite inadequate for our wants. Eggs we sold at Is 2d to Is 2^d. Honey and beeswax are scarce.
