Sudden Death. Wanganui, April 21. An architect named Thomas Peake was found dead in his house last night. He is supposed to have died in a fit. He leaves a widow and family in Christchurch.
All Cry and no Wool. Wellington, April 21, The charge against Marstland Hadfield for being an accomplice in the alleged stealing of 1000 sheep from a run in Wairarapa was dismissed, no evidence being offered.
*A Butcher Missing. Christchurch, April 20. Rice Foulkos, butcher, Christchurch, has been missing for several days. Settling Up on the Races. At yesterday’s meeting of the Land Board it was stated that a scheme is on foot by the Education Commissioners for the sale of the large Education Reserves in this Province, and the funding of the proceeds for Education purposes. This means the opening of a vast extent of land for settlement. The Embezzlement Case. In Moritzon’s case the judge intimated that he would reserve for the Appeal Court, the point as to whether the evidence showed the commission of the technical offence of embezzlement.
