[Pee “Times” Special Wire.] A-Lying Prospectus. Grahamstown, April 7. By the last English mail the prospectus was received of a mining company ' named “Haven” being floated in the London market, purporting to work ground on the Thames goldfield, although no such area is available, the ground in the locality being taken up under license. The editor of the “ Star ” has sent full information to the Minister of Mines pointing out the desirability of the Government’ contradicting the statements circulated in England in the prospectus. Rowing Contest. Wellington, April 7. Hearn, of Wellington, has accepted the challenge of A. White, Mercury Bay, to row a match in Wellington for £IOO aside ; course to be not less three miles straight, £25 to be allowed White for expenses if he is beaten. Collegiate Appointment. The Wellington College Governors to-day unanimously appointed Mr Joseph McKay, M.A., of Aberdeen now, and for twelve yearn Resident and Matho matical Master at Nelson College, to the post of Principal of the Wellington College. The Penguin Enquiry. An enquiry into the recent mishap to the steamer Penguin was commenced this morning. The dispute re challenge cup is decided in favor of the Dunedin Club. Mining. The Homeward Bound Company at Macetown has crushed 235 ozs fi’om 334 tons. Opposed to Pinafore. The Dunedin School Committee has declined to countenance the attendance of school children at the Pinafore performance for which free admission was offered to certificated teachers.
