The attendance was not so large, but the weather was glorious. Considerable annoyance was caused by the police giving notice to stop the totalisator owing to some one having called Inspector Bullen’s attention to the old Provincial Ordinance forbidding all kinds of lotteries. Not only the totalisator, but all games of chance were stopped. A deputation waited on Inspector Bullen, and representing that a breach of the peace was likely to ensue the Inspector consented to allow the totalisator and other games to proceed. Handicap Hurdles, Two miles over eight jumps. Morning Star, 9st 101 b ... 1 Matau, list ... 2 Lady Grey fell at the second jump, and at the next one Chandler ran off the course. The race was won by half a length, after a hard run between Morning Star and Matau. The result was a complete boil over. Time —4min. 16secs. Autumn Handicap ; one and three quarter miles. Ring Quail/ 6st lOlbs ... 1 Opawa, 7st 41b 2 Libeller, Bst 10lb 3 Seven started. Libeller was a strong favorite. 272 tickets were in the totalisator, 16 being on the winner. Entering the straight, Libeller was leading by a length. At about 50 yards from home King Quail got even with him, and speedily passed him by a length,Opawa taking second place as Libeller had completely broken down.
