LEVELS ROAD BOARD.

A special meeting of tlie above was held to-day. Present—Messrs Moody, (Chairman) Macintosh, and Frew. The object of the meeting was to hear the report of Mr Ollivier, district auditor, who has lately been making a special audit of the accounts. A letter was read from Mr Ollivier, dated Jan. 20, in which he intimated that he had suggested to Mr Barnett, Clerk of the Board, a system of book-keeping, by which a check could bo kept on the collection of rates. In this communication Mr Ollivier says : “I want his block receipts copied into a block, and accounted for monthly, one of the members of the Board at every meeting comparing the entry, and

.verifying the same with the payment to the hank, and after doing so initialing the same.” Mr Ollivier waited on the Board and presented an abstract of his investigations of the accounts. He reported that there was no deficiency and that the 'estimate of outstanding rates would, ho beliet-ed, be found correct. He also particularly impressed upon the Board the duty of regularly and systematically checking tho payment of rates a duty which he said was fulfilled . : by 'scarcely any Board, and which Af- performed would prevent any laxity ot account keeping. It was, resolved to advertise that summary proceeding* would he taken to recover all outstanding rates if -not paid before April 10. \ Mr Granger was appointed collector pro tern . The meeting then adjourned.
