ASSASSINATION OF THE CZAR.

(Special to the Meluoumne Argus.)

London, March 14. Much excitement.has been caused by the intelligence received to day of the assassination of Alexander 11., Czar of Russia, at St Petersburg. It appears that his Majesty, accompanied by his brother, the Grand Duke Michael, who is a field-marshal in the army, and attended by a brilliant staff, was returning in his carriage to the Winter Palace from a review of the Imperial troops, when two bombs were flung at the vehicle in rapid tuecession. The first apparently caused no injury to the inmates of the carriage, but the second exploded with terrible effect, inflicting mortal injuries upon the Emperor, and killing and wounding a number of the Imperial suite. The Emperor was shockingly mangled. One leg was torn from the body, and he received other serious injuries. Surgical aid was immediately procured, but it was of no avail. His Majesty, after lingering for an hour, sank and died, A number of the guards, officers, and police who surrounded the carriage were killed, and several others were wounded. The Grand Duke Michael was amongst the wounded.

The shock caused by the explosion was so great that the windows of houses situated at great distances from the scene were shattered.
