and untrustworthy. If the “Eodanow Company” is a fraud, then the fraud has been most ingeniously contrived and cleverly carried out. The advertisement which we received was accompanied by a circular bearing an engraved representation of the Company’s premises, and a Boston newspaper in which a fae simile of the advertisement was published, with this difference, that the prices were given in dollars. The Company further referred us, if we doubted the concern, to any of the leading watchmakers in the colonies. As the matter stands, either the public have been duped, or the “Otago Daily Times” has been sold by its correspondents, and the American firm has been cruelly wronged by the doubt that has been thrown upon its banco fides. We intend making full enquiries into this matter, but in the meantime ne trust our readers will suspend their judgment.

At the annual meeting of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce yesterday a letter was received from the Melbourne Chamber of Commerce, directing attention to the fact that the Colonial Conference had approved of the decimal system of weights and measures. The report was adopted. It was explained that the reason why no exhibits had been received for the Crystal Palace Wool Exhibition was that shearing was over when the circular arrived. Mr Joseph Nathan was elected President, and Mr J. T. George, Vice-President. A singular accident occurred in Main North Road to-day. A two horse team was going down hill when the leader pulled the shaft horse off his legs, and the shaft fell across the animal’s haunches. The wagon was laden with bags of grain, and while this was being removed the vehicle suddenly fell back, all the weight went to the end, and the horse, with its collar entangled by the shafts, was seen dangling in the air ike a condemned culprit. Fortunately there was plenty of help at hand and the brute was cut down before life was extinct. At thh R.M. Court this morning before B. Woolcombe, Esq., J.P., George Robson, (a late arrival in Timaiu) was charged with stealing a watch and chain, valued at about £3, from the person of James Miller, while he was asleep in the bar of the Club Hotel. The accused was arrested last evening by Detective Kirby, and was remanded on the application of the police until to-morrow.
