THEATRE ROYAL.
“ East Lynne ” was produced at the Theatre Eoyal last evening to a capital downstairs audience, while the dress circle was fairly patronised. Mrs Hill’s double impersonation of the unhappy but mistaken wife and the pretended governess is well known. Miss Arethusa May appeared as Barbara Hare, and Miss Lily May as Cornelia Carlyle, but the young lady’s make-up was not good, and she hardly looked like the “ Corney ”of the novelist. Mr J. J. Kennedy sustained the character of Archibald Carlyle with some success, and Mr H. N. Jerrames was tolerably successful as the villain of the piece Sir Francis Levison, more especially in the scene where he casts off the unfortunate Lady Isabel. Mr E. Alexander had little to do as Eichard Hare, but this little he got through satisfactorily. The part of Lord Mount Severn was confided to our old friend Mr J. W. Tyrrel, who created a favorable impression of his rendition of the character. In some respects Mr Tyrrel has decidedly improved since his last visit to Titnaru.
This evening Falconer’s highly sensational Irish drama “ Eileen Oge ” is to be put on the boards, and as the piece abounds with, songs and exciting scenes and situations it will doubtless prove a big “ draw,” more especially as Mrs Hill has consented to distribute the prizes to the successful competitors at to-day's sports.
