AUSTRALIAN NEWS.

[By Telegraph.]

(Per City of Sydney at Auckland.)

NEW SOUTH WALES,

The allowance for lodgings for the Governor’s aide de-camp, the latter being his own son, and residing in Government House, was strongly opposed in the Assembly, but it was-ultimately voted.

On Tuesday a farmer named Freeman was murdered by a relation named Williams, who came behind him and battered his skull with a stick. Williams was arrested and lodged in the lock-up. He is supposed to be insane. YICTOEIA. Constable Walsh, of Wangaratta, has . been committed for a burglary at the Royal Hotel. The revenue of the Railway Department shows a steady increase, and it is intended to proceed with as many new lines as possible as soon as the surveys are completed, and tenders can be called. In consequence of impositions having been discovered in connection with the maintenance of lunatics the department has made an investigation and has discovered half a dozen shameful impositions upon the State, by people in easy circumstances. The latest instance is of a person who foxyears shirked his responsibility, but has thrice presided at Shire Councils and is now £IBO in arrears although wealthy. A shocking affray occurred in Spring street. Baum, described as a merchant, was wounded. Three chambers of a revolver were found discharged, and Baum was taken to the Hospital. The case is a .mysterious one. It appears that Laurence, a clerk, who has been arrested, is not the right man, and will "probably be discharged.
