Accident to the British Premier. London, Feb. 21.

The Eight Hon. W. E. Gladstone met with a serious accident to-day. As he was entering his carriage his foot slipped and he fell, his head striking the step of the carriage. He sustained a severe wound and is now confined to his bed. His plry.-dcians report that he is in no danger from the wound ho received, but he requires complete rest. The Plag 1 on Republican Soil. Hews to hand from Hatal states that it has been ascertained that a number of Dutch colonists, who have up to the present time been considered loyal, arc secretly assisting the Transvaal Boors in their operations against the British. Intelligence has been received from Candahar that circumstances have transpired there which have led to the belief that the evacuation of that place by the British garrison will shortly be commenced. Ho definite announcement of the intended withdrawal of troops lias, however, been made public at Candahar or in this city.
