After several ineffectual starts, Dodson sent the lot away to a fair start. Lady Emma immediately showed in front, followed by On Dit, The Go-, vernor, Sir Modred, Volunteer, and Fishhook last. Lady Emma increased her lead during the first half mile, but on entering the straight they were all in a cluster. At six furlongs from home On Dit assumed the lead. Little by little the favorite came up and at a quarter of a mile from home was on On Dit’s hind-quarters. A desperate race up the straight ensued, Sir Modred winning by a clear length, Governor a fair third, Emma fourth, Fishhook last. The victory is a most popular one, and the ring is hard bit.
