In the Legislative Assembly last night Mr Graham Berry, in the course of his speech in moving the second reading of the Reform Bill, said that if the ratepayers’ roll for the Assembly was fixed on the basis of that for the Legislative Council, he saw no democratic objection to the .Norwegian scheme of holding a joint sitting of the two Houses for the settlement of the Reform question. Melbourne Races. There are ten acceptances for the Australian Cup, and 32 for the Handicap. Fine Art Awards. The following further Exhibition awards have been announced ;—Second order of merit —W. Third order of merit —Robert Lambie.Napier, for design for . timber framed churches ; John Buchanan, Wellington, for illustrations of grasses, Ac.; Gerard Mueller, Hokitika, for map of Westland. Fourth order of merit—F. W. Burwell, Invercargill, for architectural drawings. Fifth order of merit—Leonard Stowe, Wellington, for model of a calculating machine.
