CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.

SECOND EDITION

The half-yearly meeting of the above took place to-day. Present—Mr J. H. Suiter (presiding), and Messrs Archer, Sealy, Gibson, Evans, Belfield, Granger, Green, Roberts, Ur Lovegrove, Tate, Woollcombe, Cain, Chisholm, Turnbull, Dr Mclntyre, McKerrow, Wilson, S'ericker, Rutherford, Ziesler, and LeCren.

The lirst business was the election of a representative for the Harbor Board, Mr Win. Evans, the retiring member, and Capt. Cain were nominated.

Mr Evans asked leave before the balloting was proceeded with to refer briefly to bis connection with the Board. After alluding to the work done by the Board during the last two years he expressed the opinion that the Breakwater should be continued in a straight line for 300 or 400 feet further, in order that the harbor might accomodate vessels of the largest size. He bad endeavored to represent the Chamber on the Harbor Board to best of Ins ability, and ho trusted bis efforts bad had given satisfaction. Captain Cain also addressed the meeting and stated that it was because he had an interest in Timaru that be wished to represent the Chamber on the Board. In the course of his remarks he further stated that be was decidedly iu favor of the mole being continued as far as it could possibly be carried.

The election was then proceeded with, and resulted as follows :

Evans 15 Cain 4 One additional vote was declared informal.

The Chairman thereupon declared Mr Evans duly elected.

Mr Evans briefly returned thanks fur the great honor which be remarked bad been done him in bis being reelected. ALTERATION TO RULE 18. A notice of motion, tabled at a previous meeting by Mr Woollcombe, was then discussed, and which ran as follows : —“That if no -quorum attend a meeting of the Chamber within fifteen minutes of the specified time for such meeting, a member or members, or the Secretary, ii no member be pi’esent, be empowered to adjourn the meeting for a period not exceeding 7 days, such adjournment to be notified to each member.”

The motion being duly seconded, was carried unanimously, and the meeting adjourned.
