FPeb "Times” Special Wire.] Incendiarism. Wellington, Feb. 7. The police received a telegram last night stating that the stables at the Marquis of Norraanby Hotel, Carterton, had been destroyed by fire on Saturday night, and that an attempt had been made to fire the hotel. “The stable and coachhouse were insured for £3OO. One house was burnt. The hotel and public hall were saved with difficulty. Sunned to Death. Dunedin, Feb. “7. J. F. Jones Licensee of the Grand Pacific Hotel was drowned whilst bathing in the surf, at the ocean beach this morning. He is supposed to have committed suicide in consequence of monetary difficulties. The bailiffs are in his house since Friday. The body is not yet recovered. Purtanlcal Justice. At the City Court, Thomson of the Racecourse Hotel was fined £5 for permitting the throwing of dice for drinks in his licensed house. The Insurance Embezzlements. Moritzon has been committed for trial on three charges of embezzlement.
