A protest has been entered against Angler winning the Ladies’ Purse, on the ground that his rider, Murtagh, is a professional jockey. The owner and jockey of a horse engaged in the Hack Hurdle Pace was disqualified under peculiar circumstances. His owner backed him in a totalisator on learning that the money was paid to the first horse past the post. He then instructed the boy who rode to run across the course, so as to get in first. The totalisator man refused to pay, which led to an investigation, when the boy stated his instructions.
