A Mutiny Suppressed toy Savages. Auckland, Jan. 17.

The Obala brings news from Ilaratonga of the seizure, of the schooner Hamonid, at Pukapuka, by the mate (Stoller) and cook (Picket) who left the captain on the islands. The natives on board overpowered the mutineers on the second day out, and returned with the schooner to the Captain. In the struggle Picket received fatal injuries and died next day, and Stoller became delirious and died several days later. Important Salvage Case. Wellington, Jan. 17. At the Supreme Court this morning the case of Holmwood v. the Marine Insurance Company was commenced. The case arises out of the stranding of the ship Hyderabad at Horowhenua near Poxton in 1878 and the plaintiff sues for £2315 on a general average and £2204 for services in endeavoring to save the ship from loss of tackles &c. The case will probably last several days. End of a Tumping: Career. A young man last night in attempting to jump on a train while in motion, slipped, and the wheel passed over his foot, crushing it so severely as to necessitate amputation. Where tbe Scholarships go. - Dunedin. Jan. 17.

In the Education Board’s scholarships, nine senior and nine junior Dunedin High School boys and girls, respectively carried off first and second awards besides five others.
