THE AUSTRALIAN ELEVEN.

SECOND EDITION

[By Telegraph.]

Invercargill, Jan. 17.

The Australian Cricketers have arrived. They play a two days’ match, beginning at 1 o’clock.

The Australian Cricketers will arrive in Timaru either by the late train on Tuesday, Jau. 25, or by the early train on the following morning. Mr Pittman, their advance agent, is now in town making the necessary arrangements for the forthcoming match. The match with 22 of South Canterbury will be played on the 26th and 27th inst, and no doubt it will create an absorbing amount of interest far and wide. So far as we can learn the local players have not yet been chosen, but doubtless there will be a good muster of our best bats. The visitors are acknowledged to be even a stronger team than that which made a triumphal tour a few years ago. They comprise Spoft'orth, the demon bowler, Tindall, another famous bowler, and Murdoch representing New South Wales. Blackham, the renowned wicket keeper, Palmer, a splendid bowler, Boyle, Scott, Sleight, Mouie, Groube, Alexander, and McDonald are all Victorian players, and Jarvis, a capital bat hails from Adelaide, South Australia. Of the present team, four, viz., Murdoch, Spott'orth, Boyle, and Blackham formed part of the original Australian eleven who made around of the colonies in 1878-7!). Our players will have some warm work, and if they no not wish to invite an inglorious defeat, they will have to go in for plenty of practice during the next few days.
