Smartness Reprimanded^ Auckland. Jan. 12. 'The Supreme Court to-day refused to allow costs to Albert Park, who took •out an injunction against the corporation, to restrain Cole’s circus from performing on the Albert reserve.

New Zealand Insurance Company. At the fourteenth half yearly meeting of the New Zealand Insurance Company to-day, the Directors report for half year ended Nov. 30, 1881, showed that after making provisions for all ascertained losses up to dale and carrying £IO,OOO to .Reserve Fund, which with the Reinsurance Fund now stands at £150,000, there remains a sum of £21,797 2s 3d for division, which the directors propose should be appropriated as follows : —Dividend at the rate of 15 per cent per annum, £15,000 ; balance to be carried forward, £0797. The Frisco Mall. There is no sign of the mail steamer. McParrltch’s Successor. C. O. Montrose has concluded negotiations for the purchase of the “ Waikato Mail,” published at Cambridge.

Pedestrian Contest,

Christchurch, Jan. 12.

A match between Hulston, of Christchurch, and Hutton of Auckland, 100, 120, and 150 yards, for £25 a-side, came off on the Cricket ground this afterunoon. Hulston was in excellent condition and Hutton was suffering slightly from an injury to his right leg sustained at the Dunedin sports. Hutton got the best of the start each time, but Halston wou both of the first two events rather easily. Time—loo yds. 10 1-5 seconds ; 120 yds., 12i seconds.

The Co-operative Movement at Oamaru.

Oamaru, Jan. 12

Bateman’s co-operation lectures are well received. The greatest unanimity prevails and there is every prospect of a strong society being successfully formed, making Oamaru the centre. Harvesting has commenced in various parts of the district.
