LEVELS ROAD BOARD.

An ordinaiy meeting of the above was held to-day. Present —Messrs Moody A. Mee, -las. Sullivan, and Win. Frew.

ft was resolved on the motion of Mr Mec, seconded by Mr Sullivan—“ That Mr Moody be chairman of the Board for the year iSBI."

Correspondence was read From -Mr Macintosh apologising for his absence, which was caused through illness.

From the Ashburton County Council •re railway tariff, suggesting that combined action be taken to secure a reduction on the rates on farm produce.

Mr Sullivan considered that if there was any grievance the farmers could fall back on the horse traffic.

T 1 ic Chairman considered the department was justified in endeavoring to make the railways pay. Mr Mec referred to the goods fra flic along the Albury line, ami contended that the railway tariff was diverting the traffic to the roads.

It was resolved to acknowledge receipt of the letter and to reply that the Board would support a general reduction of the railway rates. From the Manager South Caxtekrduky Timks, applying for a share of the Board’s advertising. Reply to be sent asking further information.

From Mr Eoberfc Elms, requesting that the road at Priest’s propert}' Upper Pareora be thrown open for trallic. Resolved that the road line be fenced off, and Air Priest allowed the use of the old road till the conveyance of the same is effected-

From the Secretary Timaru Harbor Board, intimating that the election of a member to represent the Hoad Board on the Harbor Board must take place on February 14. REPORT. The report of Air C. Wright, overseer, relative to public works proposed and in progress having been read, it was decided that the works recommended at Wilson’s road, Seadown, he carried out, and that York street, Timaru, he formed.
