Owing to tbe rumors of an intended Fenian raid on the armories of the Volunteer corps in England, the authorities at the War Office have ordered precautions to be taken at tbehead-quarteis of tbe. various corps with a view to prevent the success of any attack on the armories. smillst Tactics. A rumor has found general currency here to-day that a tonodo had been found placed under the bow of Her Majesty’s ship Lord Ardentinney, which is lying in the Frith of Forth, on the East Coast of Scotland. No official confirmation of the rumor has been obtained. Cape News. Capetown, Jan. 4. News has been received from Basutoland that a patrolling force of Cape Rifles, under Colonel Carrington, has safely returned to camp at Mafeting, after having come up with a convoy of provision, arms and ammunition, which had been despatched from headquarters for the use of the garrison. The arrival of the convoy has materially strengthened Colonel Carrington’s position. Further news to hand shows that the recent defeats of the the Basutos, Rondos, and Tambookis, by the colonial troops has had good elfcct on other tribes. The Timhos, who had also joined in rebellion, are now yielding, large numbers of the tribe have recently submitted to the Cape forces which were operating against them.
