At the Magistrate’s Court, Morris Syms, pawnbroker, was fined £5 for neglecting to enter in his book particulars of a watch pledged with him.
Property Assessment Act. Napier, Jan. 4
The number of objections to the Property Assessment is 139. They are principally on account of the assessed having sold out since the assessment was made, and from a number of persons holding property above the value of £soi). £9OO is the estimated amount that the tax will produce within the Hawke’s Bay Assessment district.
The Xerison Shooting Case.
Christchurch, Jan. 4
William Kerison, who was deliberately shot by Walter Pringle Gibson on Christmas Eve, died at the Hospital tins morning. Kerison had persuaded bis sister, who had been cohabiting with Gibson, to leave the latter, and this is believed to be the cause of the shooting. Gibson is in custody.
