Intelligence has been received from Basutoland that a severe engagement has taken place there between the colonial forces and tribes of Lambookis. The enemy were completely defeated, and a large number of their cattle and sheep captured. Over 80 Lambookis were killed and a number taken prisoners while the casualties on the side of the colonists only amounted to three. Irish Dand Reform. London, Jan. 2, The “ Times ” in a leading article today announces that the Irish Land Billl which Government proposes to introduce, supplements and repairs the defects in the Act of 18/0. Ho now principles of laud legislation are embodied in the measure.

The trial of the Land Leaguers at Dublin, which commenced on the 28tZe. ult., was opened by the Irish AttorneyGeneral in a speech for the prosecution, which has.occupied the last four days. The speech based tbe charges against the Leaguers chiefly on their utterances at different meetings throughout the country. Great interest is taken in the trial, the Court being densely crowded.
