BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The adjourned annual mooting of the above took place last evening for the installation of Mayor and other business. Present—-His Worship the Mayor and Councillors Gibson, Shepherd, Greenup, Sherratt, and Filmer. THE MAYOR'S INSTALLATION. The first business was the signing by the Ma}’or of the customary declaration of his appointment to the civic chair for the year ensuing. CORRESPONDENCE. A letter was road from Cr Boss, asking for leave of absence for a short time owing to his being called away. The application was granted. Mr Thompson’s application re the progress payment b} r the Council of £OO on his contract was further considered, and it was resolved to comply with the request. From Mr El worth}', consenting to sell the piece of his land required for waterworks purposes for the sum of £lO. The offer was ac;epted, and it was resolved that the Council’s solicitor be instructed to prepare the requisite deeds. From Cr Jones, expressing his regret that circumstances necessitated his tendering his resignation as a member of the Council. The resignation was accepted with regret. THE GOVERNMENT BUILDINGS 1 CLOCK. The Mayor said he had received a message from Government re the clock for the new Government Buildings. The message was to the effect that the Government were not in a position to bear the whole expense of providing the clock, but if the Council would contribute £IOO the}’’ would make up the balance of the purchase money. His Worship said that if the clock the Council was asked to contribute towards would strike the hours, it would be a boon to the whole town, but he would not himself vote money for any other kind of clock. The matter then dropped. WAGES ON CHRISTMAS DAY. It was resolved that the Borough Treasurer be authorised to pay all wages due on Dec. 25. The Council then adjourned.
