In consequence of the [.liberals objecting to delay in dealing with the reform of the Constitution, Mr Berry has abandoned the proposed prorogation of Parliament on the understanding that the Beform Bill shall he immediately discussed. It is expected that flie recess will therefore bo indefinitely postponed, and that Mr Berry and Mr Vale will he unable to represent Victoria at the Intercolonial Conference, which meets at Sydney next month. Af a Cabinet Council held to-day it was resolved to ask the House to pass supplies and then adjourn for a fortnight, otherwise the House will sit daily during Christmas week.
A Tax on Scotchmen. ■Government lias doubled the duty on oatmeal imported into Victoria. The New Zealand Exodus. Sydney, Dec. 17, A number of working men are arriving at Newcastle from New Zealand by recent vessels. They state that the colony is in a very depressed condition, and that hundreds are waiting for a chance to quit.
