[Reuter’s Agency.] Border Duties. Melbourne, Dec. 4. As a result of the Intercolonial Cou*
ference, it has been agreed between Victoria and South Australia to adopt free trade intercourse across their borders. New South Wales and South Australia, however, decided to renew their existing Border Duties ConventionTins provides for the payment to New South Wales of £47,500 annually. The Walking Tournament. Baker, one of the competitors in the the walking tournament now proceeding, has been drugged by a spectator, who gave him some beer. He is, however, still able to continue the contest. Dec. 5. The finish of the pedestrian tournament was most exciting. Baker walked 207 miles, Swan (New Zealand competitor) 30G, and Seymour 286. Well done Manuka I The following Exhibition prizes have been awarded to New Zealand exhibitors : —Vincent, Christchurch, first for bulk ale ; Ehrenfricd, Dunedin, second ; also for bottled stout. Another Escape. The Sorata was sheltered in Rivoli Bay, neariy sinking, but is now quite safe. News from the Islands. Sydney, Dec. 4. News has been received that the captain and three of the cutter Lafiia have been massacred by natives at Port Webber, New Ireland. Her Majesty’s schooner Beagle brings news of the outrage. She also reports that the Marquis De Rays’ immigrants have shifted from Liki Liki Bay to New Ireland, and are actively preparing to leave and settle in Queensland. Mata’s Disqualification. Adelaide, Dec. 5. The Adelaide Racing Club has confirmed its decision with regard to the disqualification of Mata. Obituary—Sir George Kingstone. New Rushes iu Queensland. Brisbane, Dec. 4. New goldfields have been gazetted in the vicinity of Mount Perry, near the Burnett river, and to the north-west of Maryborough, in this colony.
