[Reuter’s Agency.j ■ A Tory Deliverance. London. Dec. 1. The Marquis of Salisbury addressed a large audience at Woodstock, Oxfordshire, last night. In the course of his speech, his Lordship referred at length to the address of Earl Granville, at Hanley, on the previous day, and he announced the intentions of Government in regard to Ireland. Alluding to the proposed Land Bill, he said the Tories would oppose any measure which would lead to the confiscation of the property of landlords, and he ridiculed the idea of creating peasant proprietors in Ireland. Referring to Earl Granville’s announcernentjthat Government would introduce a Bill dealing with the present disorder, and providing for the future happiness of Irishmen, his Lordship strongly urged the necessity of first repressing existing anarchy before taking any steps to remedy the grievances of the people. Obltuary~-Two White Elephants. Government has decided to abolish the positions of Lord Chief Baron of the Exchequer and Lord Chief Justice of Common Pleas. The Eastern Question. England has made a proposal to the other Powers not to disperse the combined fleet. The Government maintains they should still continue to act in concert so as to execute the remainder of the Treaty. Another Champion Match. It has been arranged that a sculling match for the championship between Hanlan and Laycock shall take place on January 17 over the usual Thames course. Laycock has now raised the necessary stake of £SOO. Preparing 1 for the Worst. Dec. 2. Additional bodies of Marines have been ordered to Ireland, the importation of firearms being still on the increase. The Porte in its Senses. Constantinople. Dec. 1. The Turkish Government has addressed a circular note to the foreign ambassadors to the Porte, containing proposals for mediatory action by the Great Powers towards bringing about an understanding for a settlement of the Greek-Turkish frontier question.
