The Clntha Agricultural Show was held yesterday. Government has decided, after consideration, to have Tuhi, the {murderer of Miss Dobio, brought down to Wellington by the Hinemoa. His trial takes place at the next sitting of the Supremo Court, which takes place on Thursday, oth inst., in Wellington. Mr Stewart, District Engineer at Auckland, has received notice that his services will be dispensed with by the Public Works Department owing to the necessity for retrenchment. Yesterday a Maori was found in Manakau harbor, Auckland, sitting on the top of a boat which was floating mast down, with sails set and tied. The Maori said he had been on board two hours, and he was much exhausted but could not account for the accident. A meeting of the Timaru llegatta Committee took place at the Club Hotel last night. Present—Mr E. Smith (chairman) Captain Mills, Messrs -I. Hill, W. F. Newbery, S. Cunnniug, P. Bradley, T. Chapman, and J. King (secretary.) The following nominations for the Champion Race were received: —Mr P. Bradley’s Zebra (four oars), Mr D. Mackay’s Endeavor (four oars), Timaru Boating Club’s Wainiea (four oars), Timaru Boating Club's Waitui (five oars), Mr G. Bell’s Snowdrop (six oars). At a meeting of the Timaru and Temuka contingents of the C.Y'.C. A Dresden lawyer, named Senikrch, is reported to have solved the very diflicult problem of inventing a “ control apparatus,” as he calls it, which will make it impossible for cabdrivers to cheat their employers. The apparatus was recently fixed to a number of Dresden droschken, which were drhen all day about the streets and returned home at night with a most exact register of the business done during the day. The apparatus is said to record how many single “ fares,” and how many double or more “ fares ” have used the cab, how far they have travelled, what hour and minute of the day and night each person has entered or left the cab, whether each person or party has hired the cab “ by four or by time,” and how long and at what period of the day the cab has stood empty.
