EDUCATION BOARD.

The ordinary monthly meeting of the above took place to-day. Present— Messrs Barclay (chairman), Lovogrove, Howell, Barker, and Goldsmith. COR RESI’ONDENCE. A letter was read from Mr Bel held, apologising for his unavoidable absence at Christchurch. BALANCE OK DKI'OSITS: It was resolved that the balance of the deposits made by the contractors for the St. Andrew’s School and Timaru Side School be returned. ACCOUNTS. Several accounts were passed for payment. An account sent in by the Wai-iti School Committee was referred back to them, as it contained items unauthorised by the Board. TUN I >E US. Several tenders were opened for re pairs to master’s house at Geraldine, that of W. Scroggie, at £l2B, being accepted. Several tenders were also read for the removal and re-erection of the old Waihi Bush school. The tender of W. Waters, at £l9B 12s, was accepted. sin .lULltls’ OUT. A letter was read from Mr John llislop, Wellington (acting in an unofficial capacity), intimating that he had arranged to send per s.s. Durham certain books as prizes, and, on behalf of Sir Julius Vogel, he would ask the Board’s acceptance of the same. The letter also contained suggestions as to the disposal of the books. It was resolved that Mr llislop he instructed to convey the thanks of the Board to Sir Julius Vogel for the books. AITOIXTM ENTS. The Secretary notilied the following appointments : —Miss Kesteven as mistress of the Timaru Side School: Miss Burton as pupil teacher at Milford School ; Mrs Mossmau as second mistress ditto ; Miss Hooper as pupil teacher Timaru School; Miss fisher ditto ditto ; Miss Strong as pupil teacher at Pleasant Point; Mrs Ritchie as second mistress Otaio school. The appointments were confirmed b) - the Board. RESIONATfON. Miss Mathias’ resignation as second mistress of the Tcmuka School was accepted. The Board then went into the question of salaries and the recent reductions, and a long discussion ensued.
