The application for adjournment was made by the plaintiff, and the defendant did not object. At the Waimate Police Court yesterday before His Worship the Mayor, a young man named E. C. O. Thompson, recently in the employ of Mr F. M. Rickman, Waimate, was charged with having embezzled the sum of £1 3s 2d from his employer. The accused was remanded till Thursday next on the application of himself and the police, bail being allowed in one surety of £IOO, and two of £SO each Sergeant Ramsay said that a number of similar charges would be brought against the prisoner. The accused for whom a warrant had been issued was arrested between Dunedin and Invercargill. When taken into custody he said he had been enjoying a holiday and that he would put everything straight when he returned.
