The new Supreme Court-House at Invercargill has been opened somewhat inappropriately by a masquerade ball. What is justice coming to? A meeting of the provisional directors of the Canterbury Farmers Co-operative association was held to-day when Mr Henry Green was appointed secretary until such time as a permanent manager is appointed by the Board which is to be elected at a general meeting of the shareholders. We understand that shares are being applied for in such numbers as to render the establishment of the Association on a working basis an undoubted fact. Mr Buckle will during the next few days canvass those districts which have not hitherto been visited by him, and afford farmers facilities for taking up shares at their own doors. A chinaman locked up by the Dunedin police for larceny yesterday tried to follow the footsteps of Ah Lee by winding his pigtail round his throat and securing it to the ventilation of his cell door. He was cut down in time and sent to the hospital. It was late last evening before the judges made their concluding awards, at the Oamaru Agricultural and Pastoral Show. They were as follows:—A piece of plate or silver cup of the value of 30 guineas, to the largest prize-taker in draught horses —E. Menlove. A piece of plate or silver cup of the value of 20 guineas, largest prizetaker in shorthorn cattle—E, Menlove.
