SERIOUS ACCIDENT.

This afternoon a man employed, we understand at Murphy s Criterion Hotel as hoots, sustained a serious accident. He was carrying a portmanteau and some other luggage for two ladies named Mitchell, who were [caving in the steamer Maori, for Dunedin —when he fell from the tramway, leading to the new wharf at the Breakwater. At the place where he fell there was only a slight quantity of water over the rocks and when the man was picked up it was found that he had received a severe cut at the nape of the neck, and some extensive scalp wounds besides. He remained insensible for about ten minutes, but water having been freely applied to his face he slowly recovered, and was carried back to town.
