A Cabinet Council was held at the private residence at Bathurst of Mr Sutton, Postmaster-General, on the Prince of Wales’ Birthday, and the public announcement appeared in next day’s paper, which also contained Parkes’ address. The address was a repetition of previous utterances, and indicated mi positive policy. The manner in winch the dissolution was deferred and the elections hurried has provoked comment. , ~ There is no clue yet to the Bennagui boat mystery. Water has been struck at 162 ft. near Temora. This is regarded as highly important. VICTORIA. A gentleman named Clark was garroted on Monday night at the corner of Queen and Lonsdale streets by four ruffians. One tried to strangle him, and the others rifled his pockets of a gold watch and 15 sovs. Theic is no clue. Mrs Jones, landlady of the Glenrowan Hotel, where Kelly fought the police, was arrested on November 10 <>n a charge of harboring and maintaining Ned Kelly. It is alleged that she acted with him m the Glenrowan affair, and prevented the .escape of those inside. She denies this, sind states that as her children were were wounded and her house burned, sshe has suffered enough. The conduct of Gaunson, Chairman of Committees, in connection with the Kelly agitation is strongly censured by the Press, and action by the Assembly ,is called for. It is stated that the Government pw.ipo.se to forego the reductions in the Civil Service in order to escape the difficulty raised by O’Lqughlin’s successful motion. This involves the sacrifice of £IO,OOO.
