[Reuter’s Agency, j Gladstone on the Irish Questioh London, Nov. 10. At a banquet at the Guildhall last evening, Alderman McArthur, the new Lord Major, in the course of a speech referred to the Prince of Wales’ inability to visit Australia, and said if His Royal Highness had made the journey he would have been astonished at the progress of the colonics. Mr Gladstone in replying to the toast of Her Majesty’s Ministers, dwelt on.the dillicultics of the present Government, which, he said, were chiefly in regard to Ireland. Government would deal with the grievances of the Irish people, but it was their first duty to maintain order, and additional powers for tins purpose would possibly be asked of Parliament, Referring to Foreign affairs, Mr Gladstone in the course of his remarks said that the European concert which existed had proved useful in maintaining peace, and in bringing about a partial settlement of the difficulties which existed.
