THEATRE ROYAL.

There was another capital house at the Theatre .Royal last evening. The “Factory Girl,” otherwise known as “All that Glitters is not gold,” went very smoothly, and seemed to meet with the appreciation oil the audience. As Martha Gibbs, the factory girl, Miss Lizzie Morgan acted with her usual grace and naturalness. Miss Arny Johns made a capital ,Lady Lethbridge, and Miss Lawrence did full justice to the role allotted to her, Mr Love, as Stephen Plum, the rough but honest cotton spinner, was more successful than usual. He acted less demonstratively than is his wont, and therefore more naturally. Mr Rede appeared to advantage as the head of the Plum family, his make-up was too 3'outhful for the part, however. Mr Herbert, as the old servant, had a very small part, but what little he had to do was done well. Air Alexander, as Sir Frederick Lasselle, the villain of the piece, was also good. Mr Wilkinson was very amusing, but betrayed his usual tendency to exaggerate. There can be no doubt that Mr Wilkinson is a capable actor, but ho too frequently sacrifices artistic effect for the sake of raising a laugh.

The burlesque “ 111-treated II Trovatore,” had haully begun when the gas gradually became dimmer and dimmer and at length went out, leaving actors and audience in total darkness. The gas had been turned off at the main in consequence of the burning of the Mechanic's Institute, and to proceed was therefore impossible. To-night Dion lloucicanlt’s celebrated drama, “ Across the Continent,” will bo produced, and as it is the iirst time that this famous play will have been put on the boards in Timaru, it will doubtless attract a good house.
