[Pee “Times” Special Wibe.l Reduced but not Dispirited. - Auckland, Oct. 28. The newly formed Civil Service Cricket Chib numbers eighty members. A Cbance for Speculators. It is reported that the Government will shortly remove all proclamations from land purchases which they do not intend to complete, including Batetare, and it is said that the Government mean to withdraw from their negotiations in Arawa district, except Tepuka, which has been completed, Waitahagnui containing 40,000 acres, and two others aggregating 60,000. The whole area of land under negotiation in Arawa district is estimated at a million and a half acres, on which the Government have made advances. Serious Accident. Wellington, Get. 28. A lad named Batkin met with a serious accident at the college grounds yesterday. He was playing with a heavy roller when he slipped aud the roller passed over his head and shoulders, breaking bis arm aud fracturing his skull. He is uow in a precarious state.
