[Eeutek’s Agencv.l Victorian Budget. Melbourne, Oct. 27. Mr Berry introduced his Budget in the Assembly last night. It showed that the revenue for the past financial year amounted to £4,673,000 being £054,000 below the estimates. The expenditure for the year was £5,063,000. The actual deficiency at the close of the year was £300,000, exclusive of £200,000 due on the railway liquidation account. The revenue showed the greatest decrease in Customs, in land, and in receipts for public works. He estimates the revenue for the current financial year at £4,010,000, and the expenditure at £5,130,000, and proposes new taxes on grain and maize of from sixpence to one shilling per cental 3 T ielding £IB,OOO ; ou oils, sixpence per gallon, yielding £10,500 ; ou beer, twopence per gallon, yielding £60,000 ; on imported tobacco, 2s to 3s per pound, yielding £IB,OOO ; and on colonial tobacco, a tax of Is per pound, yielding £15,000. These new taxes, including the revenue from land sales, are expected to realise £156,000. An Unpopular Appointment.
