CIVIL SERVICE DISMISSALS.
[Ev Telegkaph.j Wklli.vcton, Oct. 25. Govemnicnt have given notice to-day to thirty oHiccrs in the public works department that their services will be dispensed with. The Minister has also directed the Engiueers-m-Chief to prepare a report as to further possible economy and the oflicers who could most advantageously be dispensed with. It is not true, as reported, that Mr Lowe, Resident Engineer of the permanent way in the South Island, is to be dismissed. “ Press Correspondent.”
