[Per “Times” Special Wire.] Bank of New Zealand. Auckland, Oct. 22. The Bank of New Zealand held its half-yearly meeting to day. The report states that the net profits up to Sept. 30, after full appropriations for all debts, bad or doubtful, and the usual reduction for bank premises and furniture, were £70,152, the balance for the half year ended March 31, 1880, was £22,185, making the total available for division, £98,337. The following appropriations were recommended :—Dividend of 10 per cent per annum, £50,000; bonus of 5s per share, equal to five per cent per annum, £25,000 ; balance carried to the credit of profit and loss, new account, £23,337 ; total, £98,337. Coming Amusements. Christchurch, Oct. 23. The Lyttelton Eegatta Committee have adopted a programme with prizes of a total value of £312. • The Heathcotc Pacing Club’s programme for Boxing Day races, contains seven entries. The Government has forwarded a circular to the gaols, intimating that prison labour is to be let to corporations or individuals at three-quarters of the current rate of daily wages. A Whip Detained. Henry Burton, the well-known coach proprietor of Canterbury and the West Coast, was before the magistrate, charged with wife desertion, on the strength of a telegram from Christchurch. He was a passenger for the Melbourne Exhibition per Arawata,and was remanded for the production of a warrant, but he has since been released for want of it. Accident to a Boy.
