The delegates appointed by- the Powcis and Turkey to arrange for the cession of Dulcigno have met at Cettigne, in Montenegro, and have commenced their deliberations. Calcutta, Oct. 18. Turning the Tide of Conquest. News has been received from Afghanistan that in accordance with instructions from India, Kurrum Valley has been evacuated by the troops which were stationed there. Intelligence also comes to band that caravans are daily arriving at Candahar from Herat, the road between the two cities being opened. Another ffeirro Massacre. Cape Town, Oct. 18. Telegrams have been received announcing another defeat of the Basutos. The latter had invested Mafeting in large force, when the Cape Rifles, under Carrington, made a desperate attack, and succeeded in completely dispersing them. Travelling: under Difficulties. London, Oct. 18. Agrarian outrages continue to occur frequently in various parts of Ireland. One of a serious nature occurred to-day near Bantry. A landlord was driving into that town in his carriage, when ho was fired at by’ a party of men. The shot missed their intended victim, but tho coachman was shot dead in his seat. Reducing: the Mesh. Oct. 19. A petition has been presented to Go* vernment by a number of brokers and agents, urging the conversion of registered Exchequer Bonds to encourage small investors and trustees. The Sowing Contest. There is a good deal of interest being taken in the forthcoming race between Trickett and Hanlan. The latter is the favorite, the betting being 6 to 4 on him. New Zealand at Dow Water. New Zealand securities are falling, to-day’s quotations being 5 per cent 10-40 loan, 102 i ; 5 per cent 1889 loan, 1024 ; 4* per cent 1879-1904 loan, 945.
