DEATH OF JUDGE MANSFORD.
A Dunedin telegram announces the death of Judge Mansford early this morning. The deceased who has been presiding as Resident Magistrate and District Judge at Wellington had just received twelve months’ leave of absence. He was on a visit to Dunedin to undergo an operation for throat disease' and it was his intention, if relief was obtained to make atrip to the Old Coun. try. Fatal results appear to have supervened, however, Mr Mansford was one of the oldest and most popular Magistrates in the colony. For many years he was the coadjutor of Judge Bathgate on the Dunedin Bench, Educated as a barrister, his decisions were invariably marked by an intelligent reading of the Statutes of the colony. As a Magistrate, he was painstaking and courteous, and when he left Dunedin for Wellington some eighteen months ago he received the highest encomiums from the Press and the Bar, By Mr Mansford’s and Judge Bathgate’s retirement the colony has lost tiie services of two valuable Magistrates and Judges.
