A meeting of Eobinson’s creditors was held to-day. The trustee’s report shewed that no cash book had been kept. Up to March last the bankrupt had paid £SO to John Abbot for a loan of £250 for three months’ and £7O had been paid on gambling transactions, while a large amount was squandered in drink. The total liabilities are £4386 and the assets available for dividend £1445. The trustee reported that the bankrupt had falsified his books. A resolution to prosecute the bankrupt was postponed till next meeting. Resignation of Sir Julius Vogel. Wellington, Oct. 15, Sir Julius Vogel has sent m his resignation of the Agent-Generalship. He will be told it is accepted but asked to retain office until his successor relieves him. The appointment of a successor is under the consideration of the Government. Christchurch Criminal. Christchurch, Oct. 15. In the Magistrate’s Court this morning Charles Johnston was committed for trial for unlawfully wounding Mr Sheppard and W. H. Coulan his barman, by whom he had been ejected from the White Hart Hotel. Michael Murphy for perjury, was remanded till Tuesday. Samuel Mayfield for forgery was comfor trial. Fatal Accident. Dunedin, Oct. 15, A child of Wciler, at Bendigo, aged four years, was drowned through falling into a water cask. Sold to the Rational. The residence of Mrs Porteous, Leith Street, was gutted this afternoon during the owner’s absence. The house was insured in the National for £350, the risk being on a joint building, the other part of w’hich was not burnt. A False Arrest. In Chambers to-day the Judge ordered the discharge of Alexander Annan and Mary Hood, concerned in illicit distillation near Palmerston. The Railway Revolution. Invercargill, Oct. 15. At a meeting of the Borough Council strong dissatisfaction was expressed at the reply of the Government to the memorial asking them to revert to the August railway time table. It was resolved that the Mayor write again on the subject, and in the event of bis not receiving an early reply that a deputation consisting of the Mayor and councillors J. T. Thomson and Kingsland wait upon the Minister of Public Works at Dunedin or Wellington, and that the Chamber of Commerce and County Council be asked to co-operate by sending the president and chairman respectively as members of the deputation.
