Latest intelligence from the Cape states that the Basutos have attacked Masera, but after severe fighting were ultimately repulsed. American Presidential. New York, Oct. 13. The State elections for the United States House of Representatives have commenced. The returns to hand so far show that the Republicans have carried the elections in Indiana and Ohio, in the former by small and in the latter by large majorities. Nature's Nihilist. St. Petersburg, Oct. 13. The Czar of Russia is indisposed, but his physicians report his illness to be not of a serious nature. Mahomed Subdued. Calcutta, Oct. 13. Intelligence has been received from Cabul that Mahomed Jan, who for some time has been most hostile to the British, and who operated with Ayoub Khan in the attack on Candahar, has now sent his submission to the Ameer, Abdul Rahman, at Cabul. A Deader Disabled. Melbourne, Oct. 14. Mr Service contemplates visiting Europe shortly. He is suffering from erysipelas in the arm, which is deemed precariouc. Dunaway Tars. schooner reports there is a good harbor with safe entrance for steamers at Port Parker, in the Gulf of Carpentaria, the proposed terminus of the projected transcontinental railway.
