MAGISTERIAL CHANGES
UNFORTUNATE RUMOURS. [By Telegraph.] Wellington, October 9. It is stated that Mr James M‘Ehiy, R.M , who was temporarily stationed at Greymouth, has been relieved of his charge, and Mr Stratford, one of the wardens of the Otago Goldfields has boon appointed to fill the vacancy instead of going to Ashburton, vice Mr Guiness as originally arranged. The “Post” to-night says—“ In reference to the rumored Magisterial changes which have been mentioned as impending, we find, on further enquiry, that all these statements have been made without the slightest authority, aud are evidently based on the merest rumours. We have been most distinctly assured that the whole question is still entirely unsettled, aud remains under the careful consideration of the Government, while we have reason to believe that several of the guesses will be found very wide of the mark.— “ Press ” correspondent.
