In a few minutes every farmer was furnished with a cheque book, and everyone of them was promised a trilling overdraft
just to open the account. And thus it •ame about that when the returns periodically reached the head office, they persistently displayed 17 overdrawn iccouuts of £1 each. There was never mother transaction at that agency, and writing off £l7 began and ended the banking business of the Chuffborough 'gency.
