At a meeting of the Timaru Agricultural and Pastoral Association this morning it was decided to hold the Annual Horse Parade on Saturday, October 2. Mr Wm, Bateman has been appointed to deliver lectures on the advantages of cooperation under the auspices of the Parmer’s Co-operative Society in various parts of the district. A correspondent writes from Tcmuka in reference to the paragraph re the superficial nature of earthquake shocks and the fact that underground disturbances usually ojeur immediately after midnight which appeared in our supplement of Saturday, as follows; Having had 1G years experience as a miner I can safely say it is quite true Many times 1 have noticed at a depth of 250 fathoms that from about 12 p.m. to 2 a.m. the mine would be as it were all at work—stones dropping, gravel running, timber at times cracking, and the miners about this time would often drop off to sleep. Then about 3 a.m. everything would become quiet. I have often been able to tell the time of morning by the feeling that would come over me ; namely that of being able to breath more freely, and as if I had just got out of bed. Mr T. T. Brownell announces a large quantity of the celebrated Knight Bevan’s cement, ex City of Sparta, for sale. Tenders arc invited for medical advice and medicines for the Star of Canterbury Lodge, 1.0.0. F. A general meeting of the Timaru Athletic Club, for the purpose of arranging a programme for the Prince of Wa’es Birthday Sjrorts, will be held at the Criterion Hotel to-morrow evening. Mr A. Sherratt announces that he has extended his coal and firewood business, and parties desiring timber for building and fencing will now be able to obtain supplies at his premises, Church street.
