[Per “Times”Speciai, Wire.l Happy Tarana&i. Waxoaxui, Sept. 17. The rail way from Kaiawi to Waitotara was opened yesterday by a special train, containing a representative gathering of town and country residents. The visitors were hospitably entertained at Waitotara by Mr Adam Jackson and at Qkehu by Mr John Handley. At the terminus a banquet was held in the goods shed. Speeches, lauditory of the district and railway management under Mr Bothcrham, were made, every speaker referring to the imperative necessity for continuing the line southward, so as to get to the Taranaki end. The line will bo opened to the public on Monday next, and coaches will start from AYaitotara during the day. The men employed on the contract presented Mr Whiting, the manager, with a clock, barometer, and field glass. Most of the men leave for Sydney. l i. Sag-ht Sentence. Drxi’niy, Sept. 17. At the City Court yesterday, Henry Guilford, late clerk of the Portobcllo Load Board pleaded guilty to two charges of embezzlement and was sentenced to six months imprisonment. Reduction of Wardens. The “ Star ” states that Wardens Stratford and AA r ood retire, their districts being annexed to Dnnstan and Tuapcka.
